About Our Prints

John Richter captures his images using a large format view camera and traditional films. Although John does use predominately transparency film, negative film is not out of the question. This bulky, slow and cumbersome camera requires John to be much more involved with each composition, refining his vision many times before ever setting up the camera. To be successful with this format, one must master the art of exposure. This is where each great print begins!
The selected film is then drum scanned using the finest equipment and technicians in the country at Photo Craft Imaging in Boulder, CO pcraft.com. Once the hi-res file is created, John masters each file using Photoshop CS3. Basic color correction and removal of dust and scratches are performed and the Master file is saved in layers as a PSD. Then the file undergoes extensive proofing to make sure the final print matches John’s artistic vision and creative intent. Prints made from these files, under a very strictly color managed environment, will reproduce the images precisely each and every time. This marriage of traditional and digital techniques enables John Richter to make the best color photographs possible with a greater degree of accuracy than ever imagined with traditional printing techniques.

Limited Editions

Every Image released between 2005 and 2007 is of a limited edition of 400 prints. Once these 400 prints of various sizes have sold, the image will never be printed again, insuring the value of these fine photographs. After careful consideration and assessment, John has decided to tighten up the number of prints in each edition. Therefore images released since April of 2008, are of a limited edition of 250. We believe this will further increase the value of John’s work over time and better serve our astute and assertive clientele.
